Thankful in Everything

1 Thessalonians 5:17-18
17 Never stop praying.
18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Being thankful in everything does not mean put on a fake smile and pretend everything is OK. It means never doubt God is in control and is causing everything to work for good to those who are HIS

Romans 8:28 (New Living Translation)
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.--Matthew 5:3

If you are a poor creature poisoned by a wretched upbringing in some house full of vulgar jealousies and senseless quarrels -- saddled by no choice of your own, with some loathsome sexual perversion -- nagged day in and day out by an inferiority complex that makes you snap at your best friends do not despair. He (Jesus) knows all about it. He knows what a wretched machine you are trying to drive. Keep on Do what you can. One day (perhaps in another world, but perhaps far sooner than that) He will fling it on the scrap-heap and give you a new one. And then you may astonish us all -- not least yourself for you have learned your driving in a hard school. (sone of the last will be first and some of the first will be last.)"

Perfect When ???????

CS Lewis in Mere Christianity writes:

"He meant what He said. Those who put themselves in His hands will become perfect, as He is perfect perfect in love, wisdom, joy beauty, and immortality. The charge will not be completed in this life, for death is an important part of the treatment. How far the change will have gone before death in any particular Christian is uncertain."

We will never Die

“Someday you will read in the papers that Moody is dead. Don't you believe a word of it. At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now. I was born of the flesh in 1837, I was born of the spirit in 1855. That which is born of the flesh may die. That which is born of the Spirit shall live forever.”
Dwight L. Moody

He Leadth Me

An old song comes to mind this morning.

He leadeth me, O blessèd thought!
O words with heav’nly comfort fraught!
Whate’er I do, where’er I be
Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, He leadeth me,
By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,
Sometimes where Eden’s bowers bloom,
By waters still, over troubled sea,
Still ’tis His hand that leadeth me.

Lord, I would place my hand in Thine,
Nor ever murmur nor repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since ’tis my God that leadeth me.

And when my task on earth is done,
When by Thy grace the vict’ry’s won,
E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
Since God through Jordan leadeth me.

All I Need

As Bill pointed out Sunday in the

King James Version

Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

New Living Translation

Psalm 23
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

In my mind there is a big difference between what I want and what I need.
It is good to just sit down sometimes and think about that GOD has given me all that I need.

How a Man is Known?

Genesis 4:17-22 NLT

17 Cain had sexual relations with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Then Cain founded a city, which he named Enoch, after his son.
18 Enoch had a son named Irad. Irad became the father of[f] Mehujael. Mehujael became the father of Methushael. Methushael became the father of Lamech.
19 Lamech married two women. The first was named Adah, and the second was Zillah.
20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, who was the first of those who raise livestock and live in tents.
21 His brother’s name was Jubal, the first of all who play the harp and flute.
22 Lamech’s other wife, Zillah, gave birth to a son named Tubal-cain. He became an expert in forging tools of bronze and iron.

It has always puzzled why the men listed in the fourth chapter who achieved so much were from the line of Cain the people that cared nothing for God.

(1) Jabal, who was the first of those who raise livestock and live in tents.
(2) Jubal, the first of all who play the harp and flute.
(3) Tubal-cain, He became an expert in forging tools of bronze and iron.

An impressive list from from one family. Their focus appears to be on what they can accomplish. Man because he is created in the image of God can sometimes, if they focus all their energy on one thing can accomplish alot.

Let's look at the other brother

Genesis 4:25 - 26 NLT

25 Adam had sexual relations with his wife again, and she gave birth to another son. She named him Seth, for she said, “God has granted me another son in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.”
26 When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh. At that time people first began to worship the Lord by name.

(1) Enosh. At that time people first began to worship the Lord by name.

What would I like to be known for that great things I accomplished or my worship of God.

The Last Battle

I am touched this morning by the works of CS Lewis in the last book on the last page of the Chronicles of Narnia. The series ends with these words

"'The term is over, the holidays have begun. The dream is ended, this is the morning. ' And as He spoke He no longer looked to them like a lion; but the things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful that I cannot write them. And for us this is the end of all the stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read, which goes on forever in which every chapter is better than the one before."

And so one day our life here will end.

God is Watching Over Us (part 2)

In my last post I had written about how GOD watches over HIS people. I am always amazed at how HE works things out. I should not be after watching HE do it in my life over and over again. But I am still thankful and amazed. Here is just another example:

On our flight back from Texas to Raleigh we had thirty four minutes to make a connection at the Memphis airport. Our plane left Dallas Fort Worth Airport twenty eight minutes late. Our plane was scheduled to arrive at 1:01 pm, I thought we would now land twenty eight minutes later at 1:29 pm. That gave us only six minutes to make our flight to Raleigh which was scheduled to take off at 1:35 pm. Our plane from Dallas Fort Worth landed at the Memphis airport at 12:54 pm seven minutes early. Now our plane took off twenty eight minutes late and landed seven minutes early. We got on the plane to Raleigh it took off at 1:35 pm and we got home on time. I do not know of any real comment to have about this other than just to be Thankful.
